Greek Conference was a fruitful weekend for Purdue Greek IV! 30 students made significant decisions for Jesus, 28 committed to leading ministry in their fraternity or sorority, and 9 committed to continue asking questions about Jesus. At least three chapters started new Bible studies after Greek Conference. Hannah, an Alpha Gamma Delta, told me 15 sisters showed up to their first Bible Study! They are calling it “Comfort Zone” because they want sisters to feel safe coming to the Bible Study, but also to take steps outside of their comfort zone to grow in their faith. Greek Conference is a catalytic event in Greek ministry. Many students who attend the conference are not regularly involved in the ministry on campus. At Greek Conference, they develop relationships with the other Purdue Greeks and they often come away shocked – wait, it’s possible to be Greek and Christian?! These relationships and realizations help them fold into the community back on campus. This helps move the ministry forward and share the Gospel with more of the Greek system.
Now as we look ahead we are starting to plan for next year. Where does the time go? Annie and the current leadership team are looking for who will be leaders next year. We will be inviting students to apply for the Leadership Team as well as to be Chapter Ministry Leaders. Annie loves helping students develop as leaders and gain a passion and vision for Greek ministry. Meeting with the Leadership Team and Chapter Ministry Leaders is one of her favorite parts of this job. It’s also been a joy to see Ross, a Phi Delta Theta, go from a student, to a Chapter Ministry Leader, to a member of the Leadership Team, to a staff partner. Ross will be joining the Purdue staff team in the fall. Not every student comes on staff, but the hope is that they will continue to have a spiritual influence wherever they go.
