For the last several years Mike has been involved with a spring break trip, called Soul Surf, to Panama City Beach, Florida. This year Annie will join him, along with 10 Purdue students, as he co-directs the program for InterVarsity. This is a significant opportunity for Purdue. There has only been one other opportunity for Purdue students to go to Soul Surf, and last time only 4 attended. Each spring Mike has seen students go back to campus with new confidence and spiritual authority. He is excited to see how God will use this trip as a way to raise the spiritual temperature at Purdue.
Here are some quick stories about students from Purdue going to Soul Surf this year. Susan became a Christian through Soul Surf four years ago, now she is going back to the beach as a leader and is excited to share her story with those she meets. Caleb is a black student that recently met with Mike and asked if it was ok if he was nervous, saying he’d never travelled without family before. Terryn is a shy freshman that is quietly looking forward to growing in boldness. Rachel signed up for soul surf, excited for the opportunity to grow in sharing her faith, then she encouraged her friend Brooklyn to join the party! Mitch and Justin are headed back to the beach for a second time to continue to develop their evangelism skills. All these students are nervously excited to see what God will do in and through them on the beach. Mike’s ready to see the evangelistic temperature rise back on campus!
