After taking finals, finishing projects and moving out of the dorms, eleven Purdue IV students decided to go to CFW this year! CFW [Chapter Focus Week] is InterVarsity’s year-end camp for students. It’s a great way to connect with God and grow together in community. Though all the students spread out throughout different learning tracks for the week, it seemed as though God had one item of business for the chapter: commit to the vision.
Last May, CFW was difficult as we changed much of the structure and strategy that Purdue IV students were used to. After feeling growing pains because of those changes for the majority of the year, CFW seemed to be the place where everything came together. Three students’ experiences summed that up for me.
Susan, junior, was in a track where she learned to share her faith. Susan became a Christian through an IV student outreach on the beach, and now she is ready to return the favor. She said she wanted to share what she had learned with everyone she knows. I’m excited to see the impact Susan will have with her new knowledge back on campus in the fall!
Ryan, sophomore, was in a track where he learned about leading a small group. We are transitioning back to student-led small groups this semester, so it was great to have Ryan bringing what he learned into our chapter times. He hopes to lead a small group in his dorm this semester and has already started to pray for freshmen that might be on his floor.
Mitch, sophomore, was in the leadership track. Mitch was quiet and marginally involved until this semester. He really blossomed after Soul Surf and is beginning to find his voice as a leader. It was fun to see him contribute in key ways as we made plans for the fall.
After CFW students headed back home or back to campus for the summer. Please pray with me for them that the things they learned would stick and that their commitment to the vision would remain strong.
