After returning to West Lafayette from Russia, Mike and Annie went grocery shopping at our local Target. As they walked in they couldn't help but notice the pile of futons just inside the front door. These giant piles of dorm supplies are a clear indication that school is just around the corner when you are living in a university town. Mike quickly realized that it was time to hit the ground running in making some last minute preparations for the flood of freshmen.
This year is particularly exciting as returning student leaders that will be teaming with Mike to help lead the outreach to new students on campus. They have thought of events like a snowball fight in August, a Bubble Tea bash and more. For Mike it has been particularly fulfilling to see students' hearts grow for helping their peers follow Jesus.
Our main emphasis this fall will be following up with students that tell us they are interested in InterVarsity. For the last two years Purdue IV has gathered the contact information of over 300 students that were interested in finding out more about Purdue IV. We try to steward this resource well, but haven't gotten as many of those 300 students into our chapter as we would like. This year we will be implementing a new follow up strategy called Bond 3X. The goal of this program is to help new students get multiple face-to-face interactions with IV students. We will be devoting our back-to-school training almost exclusively to learning this new program in the hopes that we can capitalize on the number of new contacts we get each year! We're very excited as we are expectant that God will move in new ways through this program.
