Summer always goes by more quickly than you plan for. On August 15, returning IV students came back to campus to prepare to reach out to new students. After two days of training they headed to campus ready to bring up faith in conversations all over campus.
Over the next week, we had hundreds of conversations with people about faith. Many of them wanted to know more about what it could mean to be involved with InterVarsity. Andrew, junior, got to share the gospel with several people he talked with. Mike, senior, got to pray for several students that were adjusting to life away from home. It has been clear that God had orchestrated divine appointments for us with new students.
Since then we have been following up with students and inviting them to the many events that we’re using to get people connected to IV. After our callout night, Justin, sophomore, was reflecting on being on the other side of the conversation just a year ago. He said, “Seeing those new faces brought back some memories as a newbie...I never thought I would have a closer relationship with God and have compassion for other people.” That is why InterVarsity exists, to see students like Justin transformed, and then sent to help transform their peers on campus. We’re excited to see that happening this fall.
Looking ahead to October, we’re excited for the amount of students that are signed up for Fall Conference. Several freshmen are committed to going, which usually means they’ll stick with IV. Right now we have 14 students going, but we’re hoping for 25-30. That would be nearly double last year. Praise God for the way he is moving!
