After over three hours on the road Purdue students finally started to roll into camp. Because of the rigorous academic schedule of Purdue many couldn’t get to the camp until 10pm on Friday night. But still students were excited to arrive at Fall Conference to build community with one another. What many of them didn’t know was that God had something to say to each of them as well.
29 students came with us from Purdue this year, that is more than double the 13 students from last year. During our chapter time one of the students told everyone there that we dreamt of having 30 students come to Fall Conference, and now that dream was a reality! It helped our students dream about what could happen in the coming year as they continue to reach out to their friends back on campus.
One of the other blessings of Fall Conference was we had several students that came with us that would say they weren’t quite following Jesus fully. By the end of the conference, four students had committed their lives to following Jesus for the first time. Another four said that they were recommitting to following Jesus after falling away from their faith. Each time I see significant decisions like this, it reminds me of Jesus’ transforming power as I see their lives change.
Since Fall Conference God has continued to move in and through the lives of the students. Erikka, sophomore, took a risk by going on a prayer walk around campus. David, freshman, has started to intentionally talk with his friends on his floor with the hope of starting a Group Investigating God with them. Phil, senior, had his passion for reaching out to international students re-ignited and has consistently been inviting them to a Bible Study he leads.
Fall Conference has been a culmination of God’s movement in the last year. I can’t wait to see where He will lead Purdue IV in the coming year!
