“Timeout. Jordan do you remember when we had a conversation at Fall Conference your freshman year? Do you see how much God has done in your life since then?”
Mike loves getting to have conversations like this. As he talked with Jordan, a student leader, Jordan described how he was challenged in a leadership track to disciple the students in his small group. He realized as they were planning next steps that this is what others had done for him when he was a freshman. Now he has caught the vision for investing in others and has already initiated meeting up to disciple students in his growth group. In the midst of the excitement Mike got to have a powerful moment as he helped Jordan reflect on a conversation two years ago, when he was skeptical, at best, that Fall Conference was helpful at all. It is so good to see students journey with Jesus like this.
Another highlight for Mike was seeing Purdue students invest in their relationships with one another. During free times they were hanging out, playing games, dancing at the tailgate, playing sports, and talking about life. What’s more exciting is how they plan to bring it back to Purdue, by having potluck dinners on Sunday evenings. For the first time in a while it seems like there is some student-driven vision for community that reaches out, which is exciting to be a part of.
As they continued to talk, Jordan said, “Mike, this is defintely the best Fall Conference we’ve had…It’s different this year, people are getting the vision for community and learning about God too. I’m excited for what could happen back on campus.” It’s conversations like this that help Mike remember why he invests in the lives of college students!
