Mike & Annie weren’t planning to be at Indiana’s Fall Conference this year, but because of Mikey’s early arrival Mike was able to go for part of the time. Though it was hard to leave Mikey & Annie at home overnight for the first time, he was glad to be at the conference, and experience it in a new way. Here are some highlights:
Connecting with students. Mike loves connecting with students and he got a chance to do that during football games, board games, conversations, and meals. These connections always remind Mike why he chooses to continue investing in students. Those these are less formal times, key conversations about life and application of what they are learning come in these spaces.
Coaching staff. Mike was encouraged as he saw the Purdue staff team in action as they taught, directed tracks, and connected with students. It’s so helpful to be “on the ground” and seeing staff so that Mike can coach them well. He can’t wait to see what God was teaching them in the midst of the weekend as well. He also got to encourage and pray with Evan, who gave the main call to faith on Saturday night. It was particularly fun to watch Evan do well as he was at IVLI with Mike and Annie.
Though Mike’s role is a bit different now, conferences continue to be crucial to being able to effectively lead the mission forward at Purdue. They are transformational for students and staff alike, and encouraging watch God move in the students and staff Mike is connected with.
